Three Months Sisterlocked!

Three Month Sisterlock Anniversary

Saturday, February 16th was my three month sisterlocks anniversary! YAAAYYYY MEEEEE!

What I’ve been noticing

More budding

More fullness

Locs are taking form

Less slippage

Growth

It’s so satisfying when you see the changes taking place right before your eyes with your hair! Shrinkage is still very real, but I don’t mind it. Just as when I was a loose natural, I can stretch my hair by doing a braid out or plait out. Usually, when I do a braid out, it’s for the curly effect. I haven’t rolled up my hair in a very long time. I don’t have the tolerance I once had to sleep in them. I’m still sticking to the routine of washing regularly and only spritzing with distilled water when needed. I stopped with the rose water. No particular reason. I just felt plain water was enough.

What’s coming up next

My fourth retie is coming up in less than two weeks. That time is coming up fast! I’ll be glad when I can go every five or six weeks instead of every four. In the meantime, I’m still enjoying the process. Bad hair days are a thing of the past. I now know how to handle those days and stick to simple styles that don’t require a lot of pulling and tension. And when all else fails, I always have a hat handy to save the day!

If you’re new in your loc journey, take courage. It gets better. Your hair will flourish before your very eyes. Just be patient. Everything you want for your hair (fullness, length, maturity) will come.

XOXO

My Third Retie & Update On My Sisterlocks

sisterlocks third retie

The photo on the left is my when my sisterlocks were installed. The photo on the right is after my third retie.

This past Friday (February 1st), I had my third retightening or retie. February 16th will mark my three-month sisterlocks anniversary. YAY ME!

This is an exciting time because I’m seeing my hair transform before my very eyes. I’ve gone from stringy, straight locs to fuller locs that are starting to get little buds on the ends. My hair is starting the locking process and I couldn’t be happier.

My progress

At my most recent retie, my loctician was very happy with my hair’s progress. I told her what I’ve been doing, which is next to nothing except washing when needed and staying away from water and oils – basically following her directions. Even though she gave me the ok to style my locs as I wish, I don’t. Every once in a while I may pin up one side or pin up the back, but for the most part, I let my locs hang loose.

Spritzing and slippage

Since slippage is still an issue for me, I will have to stay away from moisturizer and daily spritzing with water until I’m at least nine months locked if not longer. Yes, our hair needs water, but in my case, the spritzing should be done sparingly. It’s important to remember that in the beginning stages while your hair is in the locking process, it’s best to keep your hair free from oils and getting it wet unnecessarily.

I know there are those who swear by using water and oils from the very beginning with sisterlocks. There are sisterlocks consultants who have varying views on this, (rebels, lol!) and their client’s hair seems to thrive. However, this isn’t for everyone.

Satin pillow case & Hair freedom

Since purchasing my satin pillowcases I no longer tie my hair up at night. I truly feel The constant rubbing and friction on my edges with the satin bonnets and scarves contributed to me having sensitive edges. It feels so freeing to lay down at night without worrying about covering my hair!

When I was getting my hair braided, I enjoyed temporary hair freedom because I knew in two or three months I would have to take those braids out. With sisterlocks, you don’t have that worry. Every day is hair freedom.
